Below freezing and flurries? Isn't it spring?!

Today's training consisted of a makeup swim from earlier in the week and a 50 minute run. Laura and I got up and went to the Y to do a pretty easy 1000 yards in the pool. I have a problem in the water where I cant pace myself. I always go out too hard on the warmup and end up paying for it at the end. I think it is from not being conditioned well enough yet in the pool. It doesn't help that my technique needs work....

When we got home it was time for some spring cleaning! The house was still in winter mode and needed a once-over. Laura did the bathrooms and picked up the office, while I did the kitchen and floors. Very productive.

I got Laura back on her bike again to continue fitting her to her bike with the new aerobars. It seems to be better, but I think it will take a professional fitting to get her perfectly dialed in. I had a professional fitting a few years ago at Cronometro (www.cronometro.com), which does an awesome job. They are one of the premier fitters in the nation. Check them out.

The 50 minute run later in the afternoon was COOOOOLD!!! Going out the wind was in our face the whole time. The best part was turning around. There were minor flurries during the run and throughout the afternoon, but nothing stuck. At least it wasn't drizzling is all I can say.

Laura and I have been doing a run/walk since last summer on longer runs. We run 4 minutes then walk 1 minute. It helps to break the run up into small milestones and actually makes you run faster when you are going during the 4 minute run. Laura also wants me to note that it helps her knees from tightening up. There are several different ways to break it up I have heard. 9 minute run 1 minute walk, 8 minute run 2 minute walk, whatever works for you.

We are going out tonight for a nice dinner to celebrate the promotion I got at work on Friday. We have not gone out just the two of us for a nice dinner in a long time so I am really looking forward to it.

Tomorrow's schedule includes another swim workout, errands, 1.5 hour trainer ride (ugh...), and later dinner with my Aunt Karen, Uncle John, and my cousins Mason and Paul. They will be in town for the night on a 48-hour vacation between baseball practices for my cousins. It will be nice to see them.

Hopefully this whole "spring" thing starts to show up soon. One good sign is that of the seeds I planted last week, which are sitting in the basement under our "reefer lighting," the broccoli, cauliflower, and brussel sprouts are sprouting. Looking forward to lots of fresh veggies.

Until next time...

  1. Promotion eh? Nice work. As for the swimming, when I get back, we'll go to the pool together and we can critique each other's forms. Some of the easy strokes (breast, back, and side stroke) can be really rewarding if done in just the right way. I look forward to discussing it with you.
